Smog Check Repair Technician Training
License Renewal Update Training
Smog Check Inspectors are required to complete 4 hours of BAR license update training every two years for license renewal.
Smog Check Repair Technicians are required to complete 16 hours of automotive technology update training every two years for license renewal. Training must be completed at a BAR-Certified School.
We, at Gustafson’s are offering a variety of 12 hour courses, to fit your training needs, as well fulfilling your update training requirements.
Level 2 Description
This Level 2 training offers technicians the training needed to be a Smog technician (BAR requirements must be met).
This 30-hour course offers hands-on experience as well as lectures that will enable the technician to be eligible to take the California Smog Inspector examination. Some of the subjects to be covered include current BAR rules & regulations, inspection procedures for light-duty gasoline and Diesel vehicles, and smog machine operating procedures and maintenance.
BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training
BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training represents one of four options a Repair Technician candidate may choose to qualify for the initial state licensing examination. Specifically, candidates with at least two years of engine performance repair experience may complete this training to qualify for the state licensing examination. The training provides students with comprehensive knowledge related to the diagnosis and repair of Smog Check failures. The training is a minimum of 72 hours and must be completed at a BAR-certified school. BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training is valid for 5 years.* See the Smog Check Repair Technician qualifications for more information.
